ScreenGo has no account, no sign-in, no analytics and no network connection of its own. Nothing you record, type or say is sent to us, because there is nothing in the app that can send it.
What ScreenGo keeps on your Mac
- Recordings: the screen video, camera video, microphone and computer sound, the mouse path and your edit settings. They are saved in Movies > ScreenGo, or a folder you choose, and stay there until you move them to the Bin.
- Captions and transcripts: when you turn captions on, the words recognised from your recording are saved next to it.
- Teleprompter scripts: saved in the app's own settings.
- Backgrounds, pointers and looks you add: copied into the app's own storage so they keep working if the originals move.
- A log of what the app did (for example when a recording started and saved), kept in the app's own folder to help with support. It can contain the title of a window you recorded.
Permissions macOS asks for, and why
- Screen & System Audio Recording: to record the screen and the computer's sound. About once a month macOS asks whether ScreenGo may carry on; it asks every screen recorder the same question.
- Camera: for the camera bubble and the live preview.
- Microphone: to record your voice and to show the level meter.
- Speech Recognition: for captions and for the teleprompter's word tracking.
Speech recognition
Captions and the teleprompter use Apple's speech recognition on your Mac. ScreenGo asks macOS to keep recognition on the device. For a language your Mac cannot recognise on the device, Apple's speech service may process the audio, under Apple's privacy policy. ScreenGo never receives or stores anything from that exchange beyond the recognised words it shows you.
Webcam for other apps
When you switch this on, ScreenGo installs a camera extension so that other apps on your Mac (Zoom, FaceTime, Chrome) can use its picture as a camera. The picture goes only to the app you choose it in. Switch it off, or remove the extension in ScreenGo's settings, and nothing is sent anywhere.
What we never do
- We do not see, collect, upload or sell your recordings, your voice, your scripts or your screen.
- We do not track how you use the app.
- We do not share anything with third parties, because we hold nothing to share.
The Mac App Store
If you buy ScreenGo on the Mac App Store, Apple handles the purchase under Apple's own privacy policy. We receive no personal details from the sale.
Children
ScreenGo is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children.
